Educator's Resource Week opens

Educator's Resource Week : seven days of seminars introducing computer operating systems aimed at helping educational institutions organize their administrative matters was launched Monday. Held at Smith's Info Village, the daily seminars will show educators a variety of systems that could be used at their schools to organize schedules, file report cards, calculate grades, track teacher and student registration and attendance.

Clicks, the software consulting company that distributes the programs, is hosting the sessions. "These programs have been in use in the US and Canada for the past 18 years and in ACS in Beirut for the past eight years," said Spiro Habash manager of Clicks. "After my experience with the system at ACS, I decided to market it to all the schools in Lebanon that don't use any unified operating system," he said. "The programs help integrate school functions."

If implemented nationwide, these programs could provide useful socio- economic statistics about the educational system in Lebanon. Invitations to attend the seminars were sent out to schools all over the country. "The attendance is promising," said Habash after explaining the program to two administrators from Broummana High School.

According to Habash, the Ministry of Education is involved in the one-year plan proposed by Clicks toward a fully implemented computerized system in schools across Lebanon.

The seminars will be held daily on Nov. 15-20 with three sessions each day. The morning is for principals and administrators, the afternoon for teachers and coordinators and the evening session introduces IT managers to the system. The exhibition is open to the public from 9am to 8pm.
